Great Place to Work Institute presented the first list of Top 25 Multinational Companies to Work for in Latin America 2011. The study had the participation of 1,900 companies employing 2.8 million people in the region.

With this exercise the efforts of organizations that have a presence in several countries are specifically recognized, and which have designed a comprehensive strategy that is functional for all employees in the countries where they have offices. This time no less than 1,900 companies participated in the study and 280 thousand people answered the survey. With this, the query becomes larger and with greater participation of partners in the region.

This year, Kimberly Clark was voted Best Multinational Company in Latin America. The firm topped the ranking after 15 countries highlighted it for good Human Resources practices. Notably, over the previous year, it added three countries to the integrated human capital project.

Usually, we see that large companies are very good at developing formalized programs and human capital policies and typically have higher scores than smaller firms in Culture Audit. By contrast, small firms have greater opportunities to build a relationship of trust between managers and employees, as there is greater proximity between the people who together day-to-day.

THE FIRST THREE IN THE RANKING

Kimberly-Clark is a company that gives employees an environment to grow in all aspects of their lives. Its philosophy is based on the transcendent leadership that can lead the organization toward success. This company has made great efforts to promote an organizational culture that makes a difference to the rest. That is why we have focused on the inspiration of values and culture, through good communication in which the fraternal dynamic language is the main promoter to create an environment that highlights trust, identity, and collaboration.

The company is working on strengthening its values through the strategy of “Culture Winner”, a program that aims to generate identity and sense of belonging through a decalogue through incentives that encourage individual development and shared innovation and creativity; emphasis on positive attitudes to fulfill dreams. This is how the organization connects and commits to the individual from the emotional and professional part, from their desires and feelings.

Meanwhile, Telefonica has distinguished itself as a company that has a clear strategy to provide empowerment to its leaders, who are the ones that originate and promote organizational transformation. One of the practices noted for its originality, but especially for the appearance of inclusion and human touch is “Leaders that Su-man”, the main lever of motivation for employees of Telefonica.

It’s based on 10 values that foster closeness, confidence, and opportunities for development and learning with their teams. In this it falls under “Sum-t”: a model for manager meetings with staff where they share the core corporate values: respect, humility and self-criticism, justice and fairness, and truthfulness. These meetings are detailed definitions and implications of these values and generate commitments on the staff’s compliance.

On the other hand, through key processes in its supply chain, Renault-Sofasa Colombia has helped to progress and growth. Not content with this, it has increased its interest to unite the efforts of all of its managers to make the company the best place to work. Proof of this was the position obtained in the national chart in 2010. And this year, Renault-Sofasa ranked the second best workspace in Colombia.

With a participative and empowerment policy it has consolidated its organizational culture within the Renault-Sofasa family, proving that even what seems impossible can be achieved. And after downsizing during the last economic crisis it managed to recover and reintegrate most of those affected, an excellent sign of the company's commitment to its employees. With slogans like “We're close”; “we’re reliable”, and "we’re enthusiastic”, it has rooted culture. The president says: “Amid the difficulties of the past, we are prospering and we reap the support of the people.”
